PLATFORMS Marriage of three technologies: Platforms are comprised of a telecomunications server, telecom hardware, and application software. The foundation of a platform is the SMC family of servers. The marriage of the server, telecommunications hardware, and application software comprises a system. Computer: The most popular server is the SMC3000. Applications needing higher performance use the SMC4000, which has multiple processors. The SMC2000 is a cost reduced model which does not have redundancy Telecommunications Hardware: Voice and fax boards make up the telecommunications hardware of a platform. Each server can run between 4 and 288 phone lines. The phone line connection can be analog or digital. The analog type is the same as a home phone line. If you can connect a home phone, ordinary fax machine, or computer modem to the line, the IVR or FAX will connect to it. Digital type phone lines are either traditional T-1 or ISDN.
