DATA INTEGRATION IVR, CTI, FAX and WEB systems can communicate with back end data in many ways. Traditional IVR: Traditional systems can integrate via database access (i.e. ODBC connection to DB2, MS-Access, Oracle, SQL Server), TCP/IP (i.e. Sockets), and screen scraping (i.e. 3270, 5250, VT100 terminal emulation). The most popular data integration is database access with SQL stored procedures. Speech Enabled IVR: DAC Systems can "give your web a voice" by accessing back end data over an Intranet/Internet connection. In the early days, IVR was implemented and there was no such thing as the Web. In the mid 1990's the Web became popular and organizations implemented e-commerce applications separate from IVR. A good example is in the banking industry. Bank by phone was implemented in the early to mid 1980's. Ten years later, banks implemented PC home banking via the Internet. The heritage of the IVR and Internet systems was different, thus they did not share any hardware or software infrastructure. Today, we recommend implementing IVR so that it uses the same data access infrastructure as your Website. This is essentially similar to "screen scraping" only we call it "web scraping". Our speech enabled IVR systems can enter data into web page fields (e.g. HTML Tables). Since Web pages change frequently, we coordinate with your Web page designers to implement adjacent pages with the same content but no graphics. In this way the IVR is supplied with a stable reliable interface to your back end data and is not subjected to changes due to the Web designers making modernization changes to the visible side of the web site.
